All eyes on Blatter
In recent weeks, FIFA president and honourary scumbag Sepp Blatter has come under heavy scrutiny by several World Cup sponsors including Budweiser and Sony to name a few. The reason? Corruption, of course.
Calls have been made for the Swiss president to finally step down from his position and stop ruining the beautiful game.
Not only has FIFA’s decision to give the 2022 World Cup to Qatar come under heavy scrutiny, now Blatter is also facing severe finger-pointing for giving Russia permission to host the 2018 edition. As we all know, Russia is in one of the world’s worst spotlights, whilst every football fan knows deep down that the 2022 World Cup voting process stunk.
A spokesman for United with Ukraine, a human rights organisation based in Canada, recently stated “We have this opportunity standing right in front of us to have FIFA strip Russia of its World Cup. I do not believe the sponsors want to align their brands with Vladimir Putin.”
Meanwhile, the Qatar controversy became yet more toxic with an Iranian TV website claiming that America’s spy agency, the NSA, and its British counterpart, GCHQ, were allegedly involved in the leak of FIFA emails and investigative reports to further destabilize the 2022 World Cup hosts.
It surely looks to be a troublesome phase for the FIFA president. With all the ongoing protests in Brazil as well as the Russia and Qatar scandals, it surely is time that this so called president steps down. Let’s not forget how this same person recently suggested that future World Cups shall occur in space.
