benzemaEach week, we shall be looking into one of the greatest footballers in modern football and the impact they can potentially make when the World Cup commences in June.

Certain players with an undoubted amount of talent go through streaks of unlucky form, only to bounce back stronger than ever. That is exactly what has happened to Karim Benzema this season.

In recent seasons, the player’s inconsistency has led to Gonzalo Higuain getting the nod as the club’s primary striker alongside Cristiano Ronaldo and Angel Di Maria, however upon Higuain’s sale this past summer, Mourinho’s departure and Ancelotti’s arrival, the frenchman has since experienced a new lease of life at his club.

Although the 26-year old has indeed had other seasons with more goals, the difference seen in the player this season is the remarkable link which he has formed with clubmates Ronaldo and Gareth Bale, with the trio now famously dubbed as the BBC (Bale, Benzema and Cristiano). The striker also seems more settled now as previous transfer markets were brimming with speculation of the Frenchman’s departure from the Bernabeau.

Benzema was also criticised recently for his poor form with the national squad, having only scored 15 goals in 59 appearances for Les Bleus up until the end of the 2012/13 season. Things took a change for the better since then, with the player managing to net 4 goals in 6 games since then, aiding with his country’s nerve-wrecking play-off qualification for the World Cup.

Keep your eyes peeled for the talented Frenchman, as he and compatriot Franck Ribery will attempt to restore some of the pride which has been lacking ever so greatly since the country’s turbulent 2010 World Cup campaign.
